“ We have been Balboa fans for years, but this is the first time visiting their new location. Such a cool vibe! Food and menu are as good as we remembered them, the team is super lovely and the prices are fair! Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options, but their chicken and fish are to die for. Can’t wait to go back for their breakfast. ”
“ I’d been meaning to go for a while - went on a Wednesday night so had option of two or three courses (25 or 30 including a delicious cocktail or fresh fruit juice). Outstanding. Beautiful presentation. Although a set menu - you actually get to try all the starters. The empanada was the best I have had since going to Colombia over ten years ago, the smoked fish ball of goodness was unbelievable... Then we had pork and fish for main and even had the puddings. All honestly great. All the dishes that you might think would be on the sweet side as they contain cassava or plantain are not - not even the puddings which was nice. Crazy value for money! Fantastic service and team. Totally unexpected if you were walking past it. Looking forward to going back. ”
“ What an absolute gem! Everything we tried was delicious and the service was very welcoming and friendly! Definitely recommend and would come again ourselves! ”
“ Super nice food and amazing service. Love the beef ribs probably best ever had! ”
“ Excellent colombian food with a slight twist. Went there on a Saturday for lunch, the first to arrive for lunch. The menu was very interesting, with some traditional Colombian dishes and others a bit more their twist (e.g., the sushi with plantain, and the bunuelos with smoked mackerel). We ordered a few dishes for the two of us to share. The arepas con choclo, bunelos, empanadas, plantain sushi, and the arroz atollado. It took awhile for the food to come, which I think has to do with us being the first to order lunch. The good thing is that it did indicate that the food was freshly made, rather than reheated. All in all, the plates were very tasty. My favorite was probably the arroz atollado (rice with coconut and seafood). The amount of seafood in the rice was generous, the coconut flavor and the sauce were really tasty. The crispy fried plantains added a nice crunch to it. It could have used a bit of acid, but all in all it was great. The arepas con choclo (arepas with corn kernels) were probably my second favorite, but arepas with choclo are my favorite kind of arepas. The empanadas were my least favorite. It's not that they weren't good, but I thought they could have more carne and less potatos. The amount of food was good for the two of us, no complaints about portion sizes. I read a few negative reviews saying that the food didn't have any bold flavors. I guess that many people associate Latin American food mainly with Mexican food, with their use of spices, moles, and other salsas to boost the flavor. Colombian food isn't like that. It's generally not spicy, but more about letting the flavor of the base ingredients come through. Worth noting that most of the menu is naturally gluten free. ”
“ We had an absolutely amazing brunch at Balboa and it was pure joy when I found at the waffles were gluten free. The coffee was delicious! Can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu ”
“ The food and the service is very good, we had empanadas as starter, 4 main dishes as the pictures and dessert!. The service people were so nice to us, we will definitely comeback. ”
“ I recently had the pleasure of dining at Balboa, and it was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I walked in, I felt transported to a charming little eatery in Colombia. The ambience, the food, and the warm hospitality all combined to create an unforgettable experience. The food at Balboa is amazing. Every dish is bursting with authentic flavours and crafted with love and care. It’s clear that the owners take immense pride in their culinary heritage, and it shines through in every bite. Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Latin American cuisine or a curious newcomer, the menu offers a delightful array of choices that will impress you. One of the standout aspects of Balboa is the friendliness of the owners. They go above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome and appreciated, adding a personal touch that's often missing in many dining experiences. My only regret is discovering Balboa so late, as they are sadly closing their current location this weekend. I genuinely wish I had found this place sooner, as it would have become my regular go-to spot. If you have the chance to visit before they close on Sunday, June 30th, I recommend doing so. This is a rare opportunity to enjoy top-quality Latin American food in a setting that feels both exotic and homey. Don’t miss out on this unique culinary gem. Head over to Balboa and savour the flavours of Colombia before they find their new venue. You owe it to yourself to experience this wonderful restaurant while you still can. ”
